   <subfield code="a">Continuing professional education is the process of engaging in educational pursuits with the goal of becoming up-to-date in the knowledge and skills of one's profession. The study aimed to determine the relationship between the demographic profile and the choice of continuing professional education programs/activities of academic librarians in Metro Manila.  Eighty (80) licensed librarians of the 20 academic libraries were the subjects of the study.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">The descriptive survey method was used in the study. To test the hypothesis that gender, age, educational attainment and position in the library are/are not significantly related with choice of CPE programs/activities, chi-square was used.  Results of the study reveal that almost all of the dependent and independent variables are not significantly related.  Thus, the choice of CPE programs/activities is not affected by the demographic profile of a librarian.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">The study recommends the following: a) with the repeal of Republic Act 7386 thus removing the CPE requirement, library associations, in coordination with PLAI, should plan for CPE programs attuned to the needs of their respective members; b) the Philippine Librarians' Association, Inc. (PLAI), being the umbrella organization, should call a national conference to develop and plan CPE activities for the next five years; c) there must be an assessment  of the needs of librarians and information professionals in order that such needs will be attended to by their respective institutions and library associations; d) academic librarians should continue to take it upon themselves to invest in their professional training and development despite its repeal; e) future CPE programs/activities should update the librarians' library and the information knowledge and skills; and f) libraries must improve linkages with library associations and accredited organizations, and should establish better relationships with consulting specialists to coordinate plans and analyze needs for CPE programs.</subfield>
