<subfield code="a">The study aimed to assess if the Nutrition Research Information Network (NURINET) at the national level, Philippines has fulfilled its goal of achieving and efficient flow of information required by the nutrition and nutrition-related Research and Development (R & D) programs or projects of the network. Specifically, the objectives of the study were: 1) to know the automated databases developed on food and nutrition and other related fields; 2) to know the linkages developed with schools and other organizations engaged in food and nutrition research and related subject matter; 3) to know the training organized/conducted by the Network; 4) to determine the pool of experts created to assist the network members; 5) to describe the acquisition of library resources in areas of specialization of network members; and 6) to determine the information technology used/applied (hardware and software) of the network members.</subfield>
</datafield>
<datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
<subfield code="a">There were thirteen (13) institutions in the study. The respondents were twelve (12) head of institution representing the Governing Board thirteen (13) head librarians representing the Technical Committee. The descriptive method of research was used. There were two (2) sets of questionnaire, one for the Governing Board and one for the Technical Committee. Questions were based on objectives of the study.</subfield>

<datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
<subfield code="a">The data gathered were tabulated, tallied, analyzed and interpreted using frequencies and percentages. Tables and bar graphs were used to present the data.</subfield>
</datafield>
<datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
<subfield code="a">Findings of the study were: 1) NUTRINET developed eight (8)automated databases installed at the focal point of the Network, the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) in Bicutan, Taguig, Metro Manila; 2) the Network had expanded in Region VII (Cebu); 3) there were fourteen (14) seminar/trainings and six (6) planning workshops conducted; 4) a member of the Network secretariat attended the CDS/ISIS version and WINISIS training to assist the other Network members; 5) print collection in the area of specialization of the Network members were big while those collection from NUTRINET and its members turned low since most of them could not recall the library materials given and received by them; 6) all Network members agreed that use of information technology improved library operation and services; 7) attending seminar/training contributed to staff development hence considered very useful; 8) Network members computerized through parent institution were 50 percent to 100 percent completed while those computerized through NUTRINET were only 25 percent completed; 9) level of satisfaction of the Network members with regard to the services provided by NUTRINET were very satisfied by the research sector, fairly satisfied by most of the academe and industry sectors and satisfied by the services sector; 10) referrals and telephone were the common mode of access to information by the Network members; and 11) all the respondents concluded that use of Internet or the need to go on line would improve library operation and services.</subfield>
</datafield>
<datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
<subfield code="a">To improve the flow of information of the Network, the following recommendation were made: understanding the concepts of networking and resource sharing to establish cooperation among members, fund allocation for the operation of the Network, use of information technology for Internet connection, continuous collection and updating of library materials in their area of specialization, expansion of the Network and publicity to promote Network activities.</subfield>
</datafield>
<datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
<subfield code="a">On the basis of the results it could be concluded that not all the current library Network members had the capability and readiness of the networking and resource sharing activities. Computerization is a pre-requisite to access remote information. Equally important is the availability of staff, adequacy of funds and support from the parent institution. These are basic in achieving an efficient flow of food, nutrition and health related information.</subfield>
