   <subfield code="a">This research entitled &quot;A Descriptive Study of Children's Perception of Contemporary Filipino-translated Anime Programs and Their Effects on Children's Personality Development&quot; is a comparative study of the contents of Filipino-translated anime programs. It tried to determine (1) the perceptions of children on Filipino-translated anime programs and their characters, and (2) the effects of anime programs on children's personality development. The study was based on the Cognitive Orientation Approach which explains that every personality structure of each individual is a result of a variety of concepts and processes. The basic postulate of the approach is that individuals are passive receivers of environmental stimuli which they can react upon differently in accordance with their own unique inner cognitive processes. Some of the cognitive processes are perceptions, values, belief systems, attitudes and thinking. These processes play vital roles in shaping an individual's personality. The researcher understands that many studies of the same nature have been conducted in the past, proving that many are concerned and readily acknowledged the innate power of television on its audience, especially the children. But what sets this research apart from others who were conducted before is that it focused on the youngest possible audience that are believed to be able to comprehend and be appropriate respondents in answering inquiries regarding the topic of research. The researcher sought the help of grade 2 to grade 4 students. These students are not too old as older students, the researcher believes, have already established a certain personality. Likewise students from grades 2 to 4 are not too young that they are unable to comprehend well and provide inconclusive responses. In addition, the researcher found it necessary to make the present study a comparative one. Student respondents were chosen from four different schools, two elementary schools from Manila and two elementary schools from the province of Cavite. Further classification of the schools was made -- two schools are private schools and the other two schools are public elementary schools. Results of the study were compared in terms of schools, age, grade levels and gender; of the respondents. Significant differences among all four categories were revealed during the course of the study. Some of the initial findings of the research were: the younger the students, the more they see or the more they expect to see and learn values from Filipino-translated anime programs as merely for entertainment. In addition, female respondents were entertained more in watching Filipino-translated anime programs compared to male respondents. Other pertinent findings are to be revealed as the research progresses.</subfield>
