Both the quantitative and qualitative methods were utilized to answer the objectives. The framework for the research was an integrated model of Everett Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation and the Uses and Gratifications Paradigm. According to this model, personal and social variables and the characteristics of innovation heavily influence the process of adoption of cable TV. In addition, the gratifications obtained by the audience in using cable TV tend to decrease their of traditional media. Centrality of cable TV, on the other hand, is manifested if audiences depend on cable for functions and needs they previously seek out from other media. The study found that cable television has a moderate influence over the use of traditional media forms. The media that are most affected by cable are magazines, films and VHS tapes. This is shown by the respondents' preference of using cable TV that these media forms. Centrality was manifested because respondents rely on cable TV for functions they previously sought from traditional media. Respondents depend on cable for entertainment, information and function; these are functions they previously asked traditional media to fulfill. The interviews revealed that for some informants, cable TV proved to be a central medium. They tend to watch cable TV instead of using traditional media. These informants also believe that cable television can possibly replace traditional media, because cable TV already integrates in its functions the functions of other traditional media. However, there are informants who believe that cable TV cannot possibly replace traditional media because traditional media have characteristics and features that cable TV don't have. Features such as permanence, portability and local feel. Informants also believe that cable television suffers from limitations, for instance the power interruptions, delayed telecast of some events, and others. These are reasons why it can not replace traditional media forms for the time being.
