   <subfield code="a">The Lipa City Resource Recovery Center is a city materials recovery and composting facility that aims to rethink the way waste management facilities are usually designed.  Solid waste management is problematic in the Philippines and Lipa City is no exception with its widespread waste management problem due to their lack of citywide facilities.  To combat these, the design approach was to create a facility that would serve as Lipa City's integrated materials recovery and composting facility while also encouraging community participation in waste management.  It aimed to veer away from the conventional setup of having a facility hidden away from view by designing facility architecture the community would take pride in rather than oppose.  Architecturally, the facility was designed to highlight visually the materials recovery facility operations to help improve acceptance of such facilities rather than being seen as eyesores.  The facility also brought the community closer to waste management operations by increasing community education on waste practices through interactive learning spaces and workshops.  Experiential hands-on learning was said to be more effective in learning skills thus its implementation in the architectural design was explored.  The goal of the design was to serve as an example the community to get involved in the process for a more holistic waste management.</subfield>
