   <subfield code="a">With the rising competition in the retail industry, the branding of the store is an asset to differentiate a store among the others. Through a multiple case study, this research sought to identify the role of interior design in the branding of selected Filipino female apparel retail stores in malls in Metro Manila. Through purposive sampling, two professional interior designers were selected to be key informants and five students were chosen as respondents. Data gathering was done through a series of qualitative methods such as observations, interviews and focus group discussion to describe the current interior design of the stores and its visual merchandising, to identify the design process of professional interior designers, and to obtain the perception of consumers towards the selected retail stores. The results show that interior design elements such as color scheme, lighting and materials influence the consumer's perception towards the retail store. Visual merchandising also plays a role in attracting customers to go inside the store. The findings suggest that interior design helps in the brand recall of the stores, and ultimately, is important in establishing the the branding of the apparel retail stores. For future researchers who would be interested in a similar topic, the researcher recommends the exploration of other store types such as apparel for men and women or lifestyle stores. The researcher also recommends that retailers invest on the interior design of their stores, and that professional designers to be more active in the retail industry.</subfield>
