   <subfield code="a">&quot;Undeniably, the unique and fast-growing relationship between the new media format and its users, as evidenced by the rise of user-led content movements and the popularity of the social media, are immensely felt by today's society. Given the interactivity of the medium, audiences are assumed to have an active role, making them both producers and users of the medium and its content. This study explores the phenomenon of Twitter following as experienced by young Filipinos. Its primary objective is to discover the relationship between the site, as a social networking medium and its users through the context of &quot;following&quot;. The concept on the new media Hypertext and the Produsage theory were used as guides and lens for analysis. In-depth interviews and online ethnography were performed in the collection of data. Findings reveal that young Filipino Twitter users are consumers and producers in the act of using the site, as demonstrated in the phenomenon of following. As a digital native user of the medium, the young Filipino Twitter follower produses content through the consumption and production of tweets, retweets, favorites, hashtags, replies, interactions, mentions, as evidenced in his or her following habits, preferences and deliberate choice of paths.&quot;</subfield>
