The researcher chose to explore five videogame titles based on their popularity - seen through sales figures and their legacy in the gaming world - to achieve the goals of the study. The selected videogame titles feature iconic protagonists that embody the stereotypes that the study aims to look into. Through textual analysis, the characterization and appearance of the characters and the elements of the game are scrutinizes to show how videogames promote gender stereotypes. The results of the analysis of these factors reinforce the fact that the videogame is an androcentric medium that models the female character into one that is victimized, objectified, and on whom the ideals of hegemonic masculinity is imposed."
