<subfield code="a">The anatomy of the congestion along EDSA is the main problem that this study aims to explain or solve. EDSA serves as one of the Philippines' main roads as it connects northern and southern Luzon. Theoretically, the road is supposed to permit the least travel time for commuters because EDSA has relatively shorter distance compared to other road networks that connects north and south Luzon. But with the growing amount of traffic congestion on EDSA each year, EDSA has become a very uncomfortable road to take especially when it's peak hour. This is the problem that this study wants to solve, or at least illustrate. Identifying the primary causes of the congestion, locating the heavy congested road segments, and proposing possible solutions are the objectives of this study. A research vehicle was used to traverse both the north and south bounds of EDSA. Using a smartphone application, the speed of the vehicle was recorded along with the time and distance from the starting point. The recorded data was used to clarify the initial observations done, and to determine the main causes of the congestion. Results from the survey showed that the most congested areas along EDSA are Aurora Boulevard Intersection due to bus terminals, Shaw Boulevard Intersection due to malls, Ayala Avenue due to the high volume of private vehicles, and Taft Avenue due to the illegal loading and unloading of public utility vehicles, especially buses. Possible solutions to the congestion problem based from related literature were also determined to aid future researches and studies.</subfield>
