   <subfield code="a">Several flooding incidents in Imus and Bacoor, Cavite were mainly caused by the overflowing of Imus River during heavy rainfall events which have caused casualties and immeasurable damages to properties and livelihood. The objective of this research is to assess structural flood mitigation in Imus River including the flood-risk management being implemented. A hydrologic model of Imus River Basin was developed using HEC-HMS to simulate storm events with frequencies of 10, 20, 50, and 100 years. A hydraulic model of a flood-prone portion of Imus River was also developed using HEC-RAS to determine water levels. It was determined that the retarding basin from DPWH's Flood-Risk Management Project can effectively reduce the peak flow during a storm with return period up to 20 years. To improve the level of protection provided by DPWH's project, two additional smaller retarding basins located upstream were included and it was determined that the collective effect of the three basins can reduce the peak flow downstream by 29% during a 100-year storm. Channel improvement is another alternative that was simulated as an improvement to the protection provided by DPWH's project. It was determined that river improvement can completely prevent overflowing in lower Imus River during a storm with return period up to 50 years. For a 100-year storm, river modification can prevent extensive inundation due to overflowing. Further studies were recommended to complete the assessment of the flood reduction methods.</subfield>
