<subfield code="a">Cultural heritage has existed ever since human societies developed systems of belief and attachments to places and objects that they claimed as their own. It is important to discuss cultural heritage because it strongly influences people's sense of identity, loyalties, and behavior. Memory institutions such as archives, libraries, museums, schools, and historic sites have a responsibility for preserving and interpreting the cultural record; hence, there are practical reasons to study cultural heritage.</subfield>

<subfield code="a">This study focuses on the documentation strategies for photographs since they are sources of information carrying historical evidence about the culture, people, places and events in a community. This study sought to answer how appraisal and documentation strategies be implemented in processing the Marikina Shoe Industry photographs. It also sought to trace Marikina City's shoemaking history thru photograph. It had also ventured to find the gaps in the photo documentation of the shoemaking industry and how it can be accounted for.</subfield>
