   <subfield code="a">Online dating is relatively an unexplored topic, more so in the Philippine context. This study aimed to describe online dating of young adults in terms of their perceptions, motivations, and experiences and to identify factors affecting these. It used qualitative approach through interview to obtain comprehensive information from respondents. Forty UP undergraduate students were purposively selected to represent the different levels of willingness to participate in online dating, thereby maximizing the variation among the respondents. Results showed that perceptions of respondents are split between positive and negative perceptions with the latter as being perceived by many respondents. Motivations to online dating, on the other hand include anonymity, access, and convenience. For those who are willing respondents, they will try online dating when desperate and when they have free time. Results also showed that most of the online daters discovered online dating from their peers, family, and media. Despite using actual mobile dating apps, their frequency of use suggests that they are only interested in casual dating although four of them have formed romantic relationships from online dating. They have reported to encounter both positive and negative experiences in online dating and during actual dates. Meanwhile, peers, personality, media, and family were identified as factors which influenced the respondents perceptions and experiences on online dating. In general, results showed that respondents see online dating as a risky but very flexible activity that is not only limited as a means to find potential romantic partners. Since this study revealed that family has very low influence regarding online dating, there is a need for the family and even the school, to be more involved in the dating activities of the young individuals.</subfield>
