|a In 2017, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided Family Kits, which was comprised of bath towels, shirts, shorts, slippers, and undergarments to internally displaced persons in Marawi, Lanao del Sur after being put under the control of radical Islamist group Maute (Government of the Philippines, 2017). The study assessed the Family Kits developed by DSWD in terms of addressing the clothing-related needs and providing contents to selected Internally Displaced Filipino Families (IDFFs) in Marawi, Lanao del Sur. The study made use of a descriptive method, and data collected were both qualitative and quantitative from the perspective of selected IDFFs, representatives from the Disaster Response Assistance and Management Bureau (DREAMB), and social worker assigned in the Field Office XII - Marawi, Lanao del Sur. Data was obtained through personal interviews, on-site observation of an Alternative Dwelling Space (ADS) and Family Kit, and survey with the IDFFs. A sample of 30 evacuees was chosen using purposive sampling for the survey. As a result, recommendations in the context of the distribution of Family kits based on the six (6) attributes, quantity, fit, cultural appropriation, durability, effectiveness, and quantity were obtained through survey with the IDFFs and personal interview with the social worker. Families residing in the ADS were limited to facilities and amenities that would cater to their physiological, cultural, and clothing-related needs. Furthermore, the items found in the Family Kit were unable to fully address the clothing-related needs and provide culturally-appropriate contents to the IDFFs. It is highly recommended for DSWD to conduct research through needs pre-assessements to develop different types of kits appropriate for various natural and manmade disasters with careful consideration on the demographics, locations, physiological needs, and compliances of cultural appropriation.
