|a This study looked into the levels of genital knowledge and gender constancy on 87 Filipino preschoolers aged 3-5 years old in three different areas: urban (Child Development Center, UP Diliman); semi-urban (Child Development Laboratory, UP Los Banos); and rural (Community and Family Life Education Laboratory, Mayondon, Los Banos). The respondents were administered an own-gender constancy test, a gender constancy test and a genital knowledge test. The relationship of age, sex and genital knowledge to gender constancy were determined. The following were the findings of the study: a) the level of genital knowledge of preschoolers was high; b) the preschoolers showed greater self-gender constancy than other gender-constancy; c) the preschoolers manifested gender identity, gender stability, and gender motive more than gender constancy; d) chronological age and gender constancy were not related; e) females displayed higher scores in both the gender constancy and genital knowledge tests; and f) gender constancy and genital knowledge were not significantly related.
