It aims to influence national identity through the introduction of an alternative historical narrative - i.e., Philippine Ethnoastronomy. This thesis proposes that through the introduction of an alternative historical narrative in a salient and vivid way (that is, through effective animation), individuals can be influenced to identify more strongly with their country. The doctoral dissertation of the late Dr. Dante Ambrosio of the Department of History of the University of the Philippines Diliman entitled, "Balatik: Etnoastronomiya. Kalangitan sa Kabihasnang Pilipino" was used as a primary resource. A survey was conducted among students of different age brackets to determine their level of interest regarding history, as well as their media habits and preferences. The short film narrative presents the cultural significance of ethnoastronomy to Filipinos of the past and the present through what Paul Wells calls the "penetrance" mode of storytelling.
