   <subfield code="a">ALPS Cottage Industries Company fabricates car seats for Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) and Nissan Motors Philippines. The company has three departments namely the Metal Department,Sewing Department, and Seat Cover Assembly Department. The group chose to focus on the production of Mitsubishi L200 (P-Car) since it is the only product processed in all three departments. The present system is documented by gathering data through direct observations of the present production system, interviews with key personnel and through the use of documents ,forms and other significant data contained in the company's file. Through the use of Streamline Analysis, the following major problems were identified: jumbled flow in the present metal department layout, lack of systematic supply chain management which includes lack of an organized planning procedure and forecasting which leads to problems with sudden changes in orders. The group formulated the corresponding recommendations for the aforementioned problems. Using the different Production/Operations Management tools, the following recommendations are proposed: redesign the layout, and employ a systematic supply chain management. To address the problem in layout, Systematic Layout Printing (SLP) is used to develop the new layout for the company. Furthermore, to remedy the problem with the sudden changes in orders, it is recommended by the group that the company employ a systematic supply chain management. This incorporated forecasting, systematic aggregate planning, inventory planning, centralized materials management, and a material requirements plan. The implementation strategies for the proposed solutions were also discussed and areas for further study such as the concurrent engineering, human factors engineering component were also identified.</subfield>
