   <subfield code="a">The primordial function of a library is to provide information. These provisions can exist either through the library's collection, staff, physical facilities and/or services. To efficiently translate these resources into materials that will successfully satisfy the information needs of an information community, it is vital to know more about the information needs of their specific clientele.</subfield>
  </datafield>
  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">For the information needs of Filipino fashion and clothing students, four major educational institutions offering fashion, clothing, and other related programs were able to participate in this study: (1) College of Saint Benilde (CSB), (2) Fashion Institute of the Philippines - Makati (FIP), (3) School of Fashion and Arts (SoFA), and (4) University of the Philippines Diliman (UP). The main purpose of this research is to analyze the information needs of the respondents by determining the various information sources that they use, the location of information sources, the methods of information source access; and if there are any differences in the information needs of the respondents, based on institution. The respondents' information needs were classified into academic, inspirational, technical and visual; while the information sources are divided into (information from people, (2) formal information sources, (3) information from direct participation, and (4) alternative resources.</subfield>
  </datafield>
  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">Results have shown that the information needs of fashion and clothing students, according to importance, are the following: (1) inspirational information needs, followed by (2) visual information needs, (3) technical information needs, and (4) academic information needs. Characteristics of the information sources needed for both inspirational and visual information needs are similar, and the same is true for technical and academic information needs. Although the location where the respondents access their information sources vary depending on which school they belong to, the respondents' home and own school library are consistently the two most important places that they go to whenever they need to access information resources.</subfield>
  </datafield>
  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">The methods of information source access according to preference are as follows: (1) online access, (2) followed by purchase, and (3) borrowing. The rate of non-usage for formal information sources is low. Regardless of what school they belong to, the two most perceived types of information needs by fashion and clothing students are inspirational and visual information needs. There are very minimal differences on the perceived importance of technical and academic information needs, if it is based on educational institution.</subfield>
  </datafield>
  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">Recommendations were given to schools offering fashion and/or clothing programs so they can have a framework on how to allocate their resources accordingly, while maximizing their ability to provide information sources unique to the field of study.</subfield>
