   <subfield code="a">Librarians are among the pillars and creators of learning communities; therefore, it is worthwhile to engage in a study towards how they direct their learning in the work setting. The study was aimed to determine the level of self-directed learning of academic librarians from twelve (12) selected institutions in Metro Manila and to identify the significant  factors that may affect their level of self-directedness in learning.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">The study used the mixed methods of descriptive statistical analyses by means of multiple regression and qualitative analyses through personal interview. The research instrument used was the adapted and revised questionnaire of Williamson's(2007) Self rating scale of Self-Directed Learning (SRSSDL) in terms of the five dimensions (Awareness, Learning Strategies, Learning Activities,, Evaluation and Interpersonal Skills). One hundred nineteen (119) academic librarians were the respondents of the study. Results revealed that librarian-respondents have a high level of self-directed learning (with an overall mean of 210). It also appeared that librarians associate their self-directed learning through continuous education, such as: taking up graduate studies, and attending seminars and workshops. Librarians tend to practice their self-directed learning in the workplace through teamwork and committees. Profile factors that may affect the level of self-directed learning in corresponding to the five areas are as follows: In Awareness dimension, it appeared that years of experience, job description (technical service) and gender, were amongst the demographic profiles that significantly affect the level of self-directed learning; in Learning Strategies dimension, job description (user education -in service), years of experience and gender seem to significantly affect the level of self-directed learning.</subfield>
