<subfield code="a">The Institute of Library Science (ILS) adapted its new name, Institute of Library and Information Science (ILIS), on August 29, 2002 upon the approval of the Board of Regents at its 1162nd meeting. Before the Institute changed its name to ILIS, it has been lobbying to change its status from an Institute to a College and for it to be called the college of Library and Information Studies (CLIS). However, due to the low enrollment rate of students in the Institute, the petition of the Institute for it to be upgraded to College status was declined.</subfield>

<subfield code="a">After the change in the name of the ILS to ILIS, there was an observed increase of 31 percent in student enrollment in the Institute form academic years 2000-2001 - 2004-2005. This study shows that the change in the name of the ILS to ILIS has positively affected the rate if enrollment of new students to the Institute. It also shows how the new name of the Institute has affected the students' choice to enroll to the ILIS and to take IT-related courses as electives. Furthermore, this study predicts the future trend in the enrollment of new students to the Institute.</subfield>

<subfield code="a">Time series analysis of the enrollment data from the academic year 2000-2001 to the academic year 2004-2005 confirms that there is such an increase in the Enrollment of new students to the ILIS. A total of 60 students were surveyed to know their views about the change in the name of the ILIS and how it affected their choice to enroll and to take up IT-related courses. It was found out that the students who are interested in the field of Information Technology were most positively influenced by the change in the name of the ILIS to enroll as new students of the Institute and to take IT-courses as electives. An average increase in the enrollment of new students to the ILIS of 31 percent is expected of the Academic year 2005-2006.</subfield>
