   <subfield code="a">This is a user study on the frequently used Linux Software Applications, the OpenOffice Applications:Calc, Impress, Writer, and the Internet browsers: Mozilla-Firefox and Konqueror. The aims of this study are the following: to know the users' level of awareness on Linux Software Applications; to know the user friendliness of the frequently used Linux Software Applications as perceived by the users; how the users cope/adjust to the new software applications of Linux; and to, know how the users' level of awareness on Linux Software Applications can be further improved.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">The results of the user study are as follows: More than 50 percent  of the respondents claimed that they generally know enough Linux Software Applications; among the 3 frequently used Linux OpenOffice Software Applications, OpenOffice Writer is widely used. Between the 2 frequently used Internet browsers, Mozilla-Firefox has more users than Konqueror; for the frequency of use in each Linux OpenOffice Application, Writer is often used among the three applications; and Mozilla-Firefox is often used than Konqueror for the internet browsers; for the users' level of awareness in each Linux Software Applications, respondents have enough &quot;know-how&quot; on OpenOffice Writer than the other two applications, respondents know Mozilla-Firefox more than Konqueror for the internet browsers; for those who use the Linux OpenOffice Software Applications, most respondents find Writer comfortable to use; users of Linux Internet browsers find both Mozilla-Firefox and Konqueror comfortable to use; in adjusting/coping to the gradual migration of the Software Applications used, more users prefer to ask assistance from library staff; the highest suggestion/choice answered by the users on what to do to further improve the level of awareness of the users on Linux Software Applications is through advertising, e.g., dissemination of handouts and flyers regarding the software; the top 3 areas/features of the frequently used OpenOffice Software Applications that are the users find hard/difficult to understand/operate are formatting, page setting-up and saving documents; uploading and downloading are the top 2 areas/features of the frequently used Linux Internet browsers that the respondents find hard or difficult to understand and operate.</subfield>
