The study hoped to familiarize the readers with the "Disabled Persons Act of 1991" and to determine the impact of this bill on the Interior Design Profession. Congressional documents, books, magazines, site visits and personal interviews were used as reference for this investigation. Results show that the "Disabled Persons Act of 1991" is a new legislation seeking to integrate disabled persons into the mainstream of society. It presents the rights of disabled persons. A basic right covered by the Act is the right to have access in public and private buildings and establishments. The provision of accessibility for the disabled can be achieved through the removal of environmental barriers that are architectural or structural in nature. Responsibility of compliance is placed on the owners, tenants, or managers of a place of public accommodation. Local Interior Designers have yet to be specified in the act as liable for compliance but their practice may be affected by it as most of the projects they will undertake are embraced by the act.
