AB  - While nomadic tribes have almost completely disappeared from the face of the earth, the mobility associated with modern-day living has produced a sector of the population whose lifestyle parallels that of the nomads. Such a lifestyle demands certain types of furniture that can be characterized as follows. Nomadic - collapsible, foldable and knock-down. Build-it-Yourself - cheap, suited to one's needs, both anthropometrics and functionally responsive. Space-Saving - dual/multi purpose, lighweight, portable, reduceable. Simple/Practical - easy to install, dismantle and transport, not faddist. To focus the problem, furniture designs were created with apartment-dwelling Architecture, Interior Design and Fine Arts Students in mind. Two surveys and a case study were conducted that served as the basis upon which an analysis of needs was made. The outcome of the thesis revolves around actual furniture designs that are consistent with the results of the surveys and the basic parameters that characterize nomadic interiors. More specifically the following designs are proposed: Bean Bag Bed cum Lounging Chair. Tables - Drafting and multi-purpose Table with flourescent light. - Multi-positional Folding Table. - Multi-purpose Low Table. Knock-Down Chair. Storage - Wood Block Connector. - Wall Pocket Organizer. While the designs were created with specific target population in mind, these are viewed as a springboard for ideas that can be adapted by other types of individuals whose dwelling unit is relatively temporary in tenure, limited in space and constricted by budgetary considerations. In the final analysis, the designs are an attempt to respond to both practical and functional needs as well as to provide a venue for self-expression and aesthetic concerns.
