Specifically, the study aimed to: describe the current office layout of barangay multipurpose halls in selected barangays in Indang, Cavite, determine the spatial and design requirements for each of the various official functions in the barangay multipurpose hall, and determine space and design criteria which are essential for an effective layout of barangay multipurpose hall. Purposive sampling was employed in selecting the barangays included in this study. The barangay multipurpose halls covered in this study were Barangay Poblacion I, Barangay Poblacion III, and Barangay Poblacion IV in Indang, Cavite. These barangays were selected on the basis of large community population being served by the barangay officials. Five key officials from each barangay served as respondents of the study, namely: Barangay Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, SK Chairman and one Barangay Council Member. The instruments used include frequency count and percentage measures were used to summarize results of the data collection to answer the objectives of this research. Observation checklist and photo documentation were utilized to gather data on the whole office profile and physical appearance. Likewise, interview schedule was used to gather information on the working layout of each barangay official and their needs in terms of work environment and physical environment. Findings showed that the multipurpose hall of Barangay Poblacion I needed major improvement in terms of space ad design. Its general office areas was not adequate to cover the standard workstation space, circulation space, and support space needed to achieve an effective office layout. Consequently, barangay officials felt that their environment is not conducive for working. Also, upgrading of design in the said barangay was necessary in terms of lighting, temperature, acoustic, and color since these areas that did not measure up to the standard. Further, the limited office space in the multipurpose hall of Barangay Poblacion I resulted to limited furniture and equipment that should have been used by barangay officials in the delivery of public services. In spite of the large office area available in the multipurpose halls of Barangay Poblacion II and IV, the standard workstation space and the required support space such as storage space, restroom, and conference room were still not in accordance with the standard. This indicated that the standard space and design layout were not considered during office planning of multipurpose halls. Overall, an effective space and design layout of a barangay multipurpose hall depended on but limited to the following: available office area, existing furniture and equipment, workspace, the level of importance given by the barangay officials to visual and acoustic privacy, frequency of contact with visitors, the privacy of job or equipment used, the frequency phone/audio equipment use, the need for concentration input, important workspace in barangay multipurpose hall, the barangay officials' immediate working groups, level of noise and lighting in the work area, color preference, improvements, and equipment and furniture needed by barangay officials.
