Description
Summary:The present study investigated whether the locus of control has influence on the study habits of college students. It also examines if there is a difference in the study habits of college students when grouped according to gender. Lastly, it determines if there is a difference in the locus of control of college students when grouped according to gender. The participants consisted of one hundred college students, fifty males and fifty females. The respondents answered to questionnaires: Brown-Holtzman Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes (SSHA) and "Trice's Academic Locus of Control". The students were grouped into internal or external locus of control based on their locus of control score on the Trice Academic Locus of Control, after which they were compared in terms of their study habits score. They were then grouped according to gender and were compared in terms of Locus of control and study habits. The study shows significant difference in the study habits of college students when grouped according to locus of control (internal and external), wherein students with internal Locus of control have higher study habits scores. However, there is no significant difference in the study habits of college students when grouped according to gender. Likewise, there is no significant difference in the locus of control of college students when grouped according to gender. The study provides recommendations for future researchers on the area of designing instructional programs (i.e. scholastic activities important in the classroom) for the development of internal locus of control among the college students.
