This is a study of the usage patterns and attitudes of students in the UP College of Engineering during the second semester, 1974-75, towards the resources, facilities and services available in the college library. Ten percent (10 percent) of the total college enrolment (1,096) were taken as repondents to the questionnaires which were administered during the survey. A total of 116 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 112 were returned. Processing of gathered data was computerized and analysis of relationships between variables was made through the use of frequency distribution, cross-tabulations and chi-square tests. Summarized in the final chapter of this study are the following data: (1) The percentage of students who use/do not use the UP College of Engineering Library. Out of the 112 respondents, 106 students (94.6 percent) are "users" and the remaining six students (5.4 percent) are "nonusers." (2) Characteristics of engineering students who use/do not use the college library. The typical "user" is a male, single, about 21-25 years of age, who lives outside the university campus. He was a graduate from a private high school, is a full-time student, in the fourth year, majoring in electrical engineering, and with a general grade point average within the "satisfactory" range. On the other hand, the "nonuser" is a male, single, between 16-20 years of age, who lives inside/outside the university campus. He was a graduate from a public high school, is a full-time electrical engineering student, in the third year, and with a general grade point average within or above the "satisfactory" range. (3) The students' pre- and extra college library experiences which could have caused their use/nonuse of the Engineering Library. The nonusers used their high school libraries more than the college library, whereas the users had used their high school libraries less than the college library. The users visit other unit libraries of the University of the Philippines System less frequently than the Engineering Library, whereas the nonusers use these unit libraries more than they use the college library. Either the presence of personal libraries or the favorable/unfavorable attitudes of professors towards the college library results in the use/nonuse of the library. (4) The students' personal evaluation of the resources, facilities and services of the college library. The students consider the number of copies of textbooks in the Reserve Section of the Engineering Library as inadequate, the library staff as "effective and helpful," and the library services provided as generally "good." Recommendations given at the end of the study were implied from the responses of students to the survey questionnaire.
