   <subfield code="a">Man has been fascinated by flight since prehistory. Before actual manned flight, small flying models proved that man-carrying flight was possible. It was this fascination for models that sustained man's dream of flight, and having attained it, made him thrist for more. Flight has always been at the forefront of technology; the Sceince of Aeronautics spurred growth in other fields. The search for smaller, lighter, and more efficient machines and structures was due to the yearning to make it applicable to aircraft. Thus, electronics became more compact and reliable; new materials were born for aircraft use. In full circle, electronics and structures developed for full-sized aircraft available for model use. Initailly for research, but as cost became reasonable, Radio Controlled Model Aircraft became objects of entertainment for many. However, as these models imitated, and often surpassed, the behavior of their full-sized brethren, it became obvious that safety would be of prime concern if the activity of flying Radio Controlled Models were to continue. Flying sites had to be planned and developed and controls on radio use, movement of people on these sites, etc. were necessary. In the Philippines, no specific flying site exists for Radio Controlled Model Aircraft. All activities for this are done on rarely-travelled roads in suburban subdivisions. Little or no safety precautions exists. Already Radio Controlled Flying has been banned in some areas. It is the hope of this thesis that this activity of Radio Controlled Flying can become a recognized sport, to be at par with the rest of the world. With the data thus gathered and analyzed, the dream of so many enthusiasts may soon become a reality.</subfield>
