|a One cannot deny the importance of the library in every school institution. From the slowest learner to the most intelligent student, there is a certain level of attachment with the library. The library has touched the lives of the academic players from all walks of life without being seen but the results were tremendously felt in its form of knowledge. Secondary education is important in providing skills and knowledge for higher education designed for high school students. In the Philippines, there are two divisions of secondary education: the public and the private. The increase of private secondary schools after the post-war era was very evident in the Philippines, especially in the Metro Manila area. One city is a very good example of the growth of private secondary schools--Marikina City.

|a Descriptive questionnaires, interviews and library visits were conducted to be able to get data from eight private secondary schools in Marikina City. The questions raised were based on five components: (1) physical setup (2) library staff (3) library programs and services (4) library collections and (5) funds. Tables were created to compare the data of the eight participating secondary school libraries in Marikina City with the DECS and PLAI Standards for Basic Book Collections. Conclusions on the current status of private secondary school libraries in Marikina City are given. Only four private secondary school libraries in general meet the DECS and PLAI minimum standard. These are the libraries of Infant Jesus Academy, Marist School, OLOPSC, and Roosevelt College. Improvement of room and floor area, allotments, equal distribution of library funds and employing a qualified school librarian and teacher-librarian are the main recommendations of the study.
