   <subfield code="a">This study has sought to determine if there is a relation between the library type, and the compensation and competitive atmosphere attributed to it using Kendall's W Test. It also ascertained if there is a link between undergraduate and graduate BLIS respondent profiles and their first job library type preferences through the Independent Samples T-Test. In addition, it surveyed the actual first job library types and corresponding profiles of the graduates from the Institute. The survey questionnaire was used to gather both student and graduate profiles, Competitive atmosphere and compensation rankings , library type preference rankings, and actual first job library types of the graduates from the Institute. Curriculum Weighted Averages (CWA) for both respondent categories were obtained from the Administration Office.</subfield>
  </datafield>
  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">Kendall's W Test yielded a strong relation between library types and library compensation and competitive atmospheres for both graduate and undergraduate respondents. Results show that at least one type differs in the mean rank compared to the other library types in relation to either compensation or competitive atmosphere, as reflected by the significantly differentiated mean ranks of the library types in either library characteristic. These imply that a perceived library characteristic (high-paying/ competitive or low-paying/ non-competitive) of a specific library type is true not just of the sample but is true of the population.</subfield>
  </datafield>
  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">Independent Samples T- Test yielded a majority of non-relation between profiles of both graduate and undergraduate respondents and their first job library type preferences. A factor that could be causing such non-relation, is the inherent desire of the respondents for self-actualization. Only 2 pairs, or one for each respondent category proved to be related. For undergraduate respondents, the test indicated that for not-for-profit special libraries, the mean preference ranking by high-CWA respondents is significantly lower than those of low CWA respondents. For graduate respondents, the test results have shown that for public libraries, the mean preference ranking by male respondents is significantly lower than those of female respondents.</subfield>

  <datafield tag="520" ind1="3" ind2=" ">
   <subfield code="a">The survey on actual first job library types shows that of the 40 graduate students whose first jobs were in libraries, 9 of them (22.5 percent) worked in academic libraries. Seven (7 or 17.5 percent) landed jobs in for-profit special libraries. Another 7 (or 17.5 percent) worked in school libraries. Only one respondent, or 2.5 percent, worked in a public library after graduation. The above-mentioned types garnered a cumulative 60 percent of the entire graduates of the Institute from 1997-2001. The remaining 40 percent or 16 respondents worked in not-for-profit special libraries. Graduate profiles show that 50 percent of the respondents surveyed fall in the low category of student CWAs, while the other 20 respondents have high CWAs. Twenty-nine (29 or 72.5 percent) come from low-income families, while 11, or 27.5 percent come from high-income families. There are 10 male and 30 female respondents.</subfield>
