502 |a A structured questionnaire was created as a guide for the actual interviews, supported by participant-observations and document analysis. The results indicated that the abovementioned television networks' special libraries are composed of the following: cassette tapes, compact discs (CDs), DVCs, Beta cam U-Matic, VHS, open reel tapes and Filing Records. However, not all these collections are present in each of the libraries. It depends on the subject of the collection and the budget alloted for the library as well. Furthermore, it was also found out that dubbing/editing machines, computers and shelf lists are the other most common materials that can be found and useful in a special library of a television network. More so, authorization in the usage of the collections is very strict because not everybody is allowed to use them. Only selected personnel and employees are commonly permitted to make use of the collection.
502 |a Meanwhile, the Techniques /systems available for the retrieval of the materials among the corresponding special libraries are as follows: catalogs, computer database, Indexes and referrals. But some of the libraries were discovered that they are still in their initial stage of Computerization. Three out of the eight special libraries are still in the process of getting up to date with the technological trend. In turn, the library arrangement techniques employed by the network are as follows: alphabetically, according to the title of the show, according to the type of material, with the use of accession/control nos., or by the year it was created. Additionally, the staff of the said libraries are normally classified as: dubbing technician/dubber, video researcher, film editor and as an inventory clerk.
502 |a From the difficulties that the librarians commonly encounter, they claimed that their problems vary from lost/missing materials, improperly returned, unavailability of machines (dubbing machines, computers) under staff, minimal space and up to irreparable damages in the collections. Surprisingly, budget was never mentioned to be a problem for any of the corresponding special libraries.
520 3 |a This undergraduate thesis entitled, "The Collection Management Practices of Selected Philippine Broadcasting Companies", was undertaken to be able to determine the methods of organization used in the arrangement of the video collections of the eight special libraries stationed under the four most popular television networks in our country. These television networks are as follows: GMA-7, RPN-9, ABC-5 and NBN (formerly known as PTV-4). Respondents are composed of the head librarians and/or the film supervisors of each of the corresponding libraries.
