|a The study is titled "Trends in Book Selection Policies in Selected School Libraries in Manila and Quezon City, Philippines." The school libraries included in the study are University of the Philippines Integrated School Library, San Sebastian high school library, Lourdes School of Quezon City high school library and School of the Holy Spirit of Quezon City school library. The objectives of the study are the following: 1) To be able to know if there is an established system of book selection in school libraries in Manila and Quezon City; 2) to be able to know what are the trends in book selection in school libraries in Manila and Quezon City; and 3) to mark differences in the changes in trends in book selection in school libraries in Manila and Quezon City for the past three decades.

|a The study used pre-determined search terms under the following topics: 1) abortion; 2) divorce; 3) pre-marital sex and 4)prostitution. The number of acquired books related with the topics between the time period 1970 - 2000 was tallied.

|a The study showed that the changes in the trends in book selection in school libraries are usually based from the school's objectives and the school's mission-vision. The selection is done by the joint effort of both the faculty and the librarian. The study showed that for the past three decades the number of books acquired related with the given topics increased. In the time period of 1970 - 1980 the average number of books acquired by the school libraries were 1 - 4 per year. In 1980 - 1990 and average of 2 - 6 books per year. In 1990 - 2000 an average of 2 - 8 books per year.

|a The study also showed that co-ed schools acquired more books related with the given topics than the schools exclusively for girls and for boys. Also the study showed that school libraries administered by religious sectors have stricter regulations in book selection.
