<subfield code="a">This study investigated on the distinct manifestations and effects of crowding in the Interior Design Studio (IDS) 122A and 122B in the University of the Philippines as well as the coping mechanisms of students in order to address this concern. It also aimed to identify minimum design standards to avoid the negative effects of crowding. The respondents of the study involved 62 first to fourth year interior design students who use these classrooms. Stratified random sampling technique was applied to determine the sample size. Survey questionnaire used a five-point Likert scale to gather the manifestations and effects of crowding. An open-ended question was used to draw the respondents' coping mechanisms. The results of the study showed that crowding exists in the IDS classrooms. Stimulus overload and restriction on movement which are two of Richmond's general crowding factors manifested based on the survey results. The lack of tables and chairs and feeling of thermal discomfort that constitute stimulus overload and restriction in movement were affirmed by the respondents. Moreover, emotion-focused and problem-focused coping mechanisms were identified as coping mechanisms of the respondents to avoid the effects of crowding. The research recommends an addition of tables, chairs, electric fans and work area of 3.34 square meters (Panero 261) for each student to be able to address the concern on crowding.</subfield>
