The general purpose of the project is the compilation of all the known, existing antigens of the malaria parasite P. falciparum in order to provide a comprehensive and systematic way of studying them and thus drawing new data, that will be of use int he creation of vaccines and other products in biotechnology. The project consists of the first two of a supposed to be three-phase project on DNA vaccines. The first part is building a database of different membrane antigens from the malaria parasite Plasmodium falcifarum to obtain data from other databases via the Internet. Since the information to be obtained is in many different formats the most prominent of which are those known as SWISSPROT and GENBANK, the database will then first consolidate the data into a common format and shall keep records of the data using this format. The second phase of the project is the creation of a web crawler, which will submit the data in the database to many different DNA sequence analysis websites for testing and analysis. The web crawler outputs the existing web based DNA sequence analysis sites. The project's scope is limited to the antigens of P. falciparum. The database will facilitate the collection and systematic compilation of the many different antigens. the web crawler will enable the submission of these many different antigens from the database to the many DNA or protein sequence analysis websites. One particular objective is that the collection and submission of the data to and from the database be not hindered by the many different formats that the sequences may come in. Thesis (B.S.
