   <subfield code="a">Being able to produce a regulated output voltage, the Variable High Voltage 10 - 250 Volts 4 Amperes Maximum Current 1000 Watts Medium Power Switch mode Power Supply is primarily intended to be a jump-off point for future power supply designs that may be capable of driving a 2000V DC motor, similar to the ones found in our laboratories in Yia Hall, as a test input for the DC to DC conversion for a variety of other uses. This research project, like any other power supply, implements power conversion in 3 general stages; The AC to DC Conversion Stage which rectifies the sinusoidal line voltage to produce a rippled DC Voltage Level, DC to DC Conversion where the DC output of the preceding stage is shifted to a level as specified by the requirement and Feedback and Control Stage which ensures minimal noise and distortion, regulates the output and controls the output voltage level. The extra stages to receive their required voltage levels for off-the-line functionality. The concept behind Switch Mode regulation is to continually turn a semiconductor switch, generally a MOSFET, on and off &quot;chopping&quot; the generated wave forms, thereby limiting the amount of current, voltage, and consequently, power, that the system delivers. A pulse width modulating control circuitry is employed to attain this effect.</subfield>
