<subfield code="a">This study examined ordinary individuals' personal archives and archiving practices. Researchers in archival studies have expressed the need to explore this topic further, as it has often been overlooked despite its historical and evidential value. By conducting a study on ordinary individuals through qualitative interviews and by adopting Sue McKemmish's concept of “Evidence of Me,” this study presented how ordinary individuals embody the essence of personal archiving and how their archives reflect their identities and personal histories.

The findings revealed that the participants have no clear notion about records and archives. They prioritize practicality and accessibility of records over intentional categorization. Nonetheless, their collections were divided into two types: (1) Personal Archives and Memorabilia and (2) Important Records. The former reflects the ‘self,’ relationships, and memories, while the latter forms the individual’s social identity and roles. Moreover, the participants keep both physical and digital records. They perform different storage methods, such as using envelopes, folders, and boxes for physical records. At the same time, they utilize cloud-based drives, electronic folders, and web- based accounts for digital records. The participants also demonstrated their recordkeeping practices, from creating records to setting appraisal and reappraisal schedules, as well as performing arrangement and disposition. Findings showed that there is no one-size-fits-all recordkeeping system as each collection is unique influenced by emotions, goals, and memories. Moreover, there are three main reasons motivating individuals to keep records: (1) they have sentimental value; (2) they serve as references for future activities; and (3) they serve as evidence of past activities. As for the purposes and uses, findings showed that records and archives are used for memory preservation and self-reflection, witnessing milestones and personal plans, and evidencing transactions and benefits.

The study suggested conducting further research on personal archives using alternative data collection methods and more similar case studies to address uncovered or newly discovered gaps on the topic. The study revealed that ordinary individuals digitally archive their personal records. As such, further research on Personal Digital Archiving (PDA), specifically PDA behavior, is also recommended. Additionally, this suggested that a training intervention for basic recordkeeping be implemented through sector-based training or integration into the secondary education curriculum. Lastly, this study recommended revisiting archival practices and frameworks to ensure inclusivity in the archival collection. This includes developing strategies for the appraisal and processing of personal archives, as well as ensuring the preservation of these collections, which can contribute to filling the gaps in the community’s history and identity.</subfield>
