<subfield code="a">The freshwater catfish has been considered as the most economically valuable fish in Southeast Asia. Clarias macrocephalus, a native catfish is one of the species mostly cultured in the Philippines because of its tender and delicious meat. However, this species is fast becoming scarce due to its slow growth and poor breeding activities. Thus, it led to the introduction of exotic and fster growing species like the African catfish, clarias gariepinus and Thai catfish, Clarias batrachus, which in turn resulted in the near extinction of native catfish. due to extinction problem, a series of breeding programs must be done using these species. Hybridization of native catfish to African catfish can be one of the solutions to increase its meat quality., The focus of this special problem is on the comparison of performance of triploid hybrids produced from C. gariepinus female and C. macrocephalus male cross and to specifically compare their fertilization, hatching and survival rates at day 2 and day 5 post-hatching . Heatshock treatments of artificially fertilized eggs were done for 15 minutes with 1-minute post fertilization allowance at 35 degrees centigrade, 37 degrees centigrade and 39 degrees centigrade. A conrol set-up was also done to compare with the experimental group. Based on the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), there is a significant difference (P<0.05) between the control and the experimental group obtained lower values than the control for all the parameters. However, it was expected that the experiemntal group would yield greater values on fertilization, hatching and survival rates. The temperature suitable for better hybrid survival is between 34 degrees centigrade and 39 degrees centigrade. It is concluded that the experimental resutls were greatly affected by intrinsic and extrinsic factors during the conduct of the experiment. It is recommended that other biological parameters such as detailsof developmental stages, differential growth rates, morphological abnormalities of the fry and feeding performance from larval to growth phase be determined.</subfield>
