<subfield code="a">In recent years, there has been increasing recognition of the rights of people with disabilities, accompanied by the enactment of laws and movements aimed at promoting their inclusion and empowerment. However, the implementation of these laws and policies, particularly in developing countries like the Philippines, still faces significant challenges, resulting in a disparity among social classes and underserved communities, especially for individuals with mobility issues. This research study examines the landscape of mobility and accessibility for low-income wheelchair-bound individuals and highlights the barriers they face in accessing transportation and reaching their destination.

Through a qualitative case study approach, a small sample of respondents consisting of low-income wheelchair-bound individuals was selected using the Snowball sampling method. The sensitive nature of the topic necessitated a careful and empathetic approach to connect with and understand the experiences of the respondents. The study revealed that the lack of convenient and accessible transportation options forces individuals to rely heavily on their wheelchairs, often traveling long distance spanning several kilometers. These commutes present challenges in terms of navigating road conditions, exposure to the elements,a and negative impacts on their health and productivity.

Furthermore , the research emphasizes the importance of an inclusive and accessible environment for wheelchair users. The study findings indicate that the current local landscape lacks the necessary infrastructure and enforcement of accessibility laws, resulting in limited mobility options and hindering the independence and well-being of individuals with disabilities. Based on the collected data and in-depth immersion with the participants, it is concluded that low-income wheelchair-bound individuals face significant challenges in personal mobility and accessibility.

The research underscores the urgent need for improvements or development of alternatives in transportation infrastructure and promotes the enforcement of accessibility laws to ensure the well-being and productivity of this marginalized community. The study concludes by recommending the development of "Larga", a mobility device attachment specifically designed to aid in long-distance wheeling, offering a convenient and reliable option for travel.
