   <subfield code="a">Amphibians are cold-blooded vertebrates that thrive in a wide array of habitats both on land and in water. These habitats vary depending on several factors including the land area, resource availability, depth, physicochemical and water quality, and the lack or abundance of predators. This study generally aimed to assess amphibian diversity in the vicinity of karst forest, forest edge, and along the riverbank within the four upland barangays of Taft, Eastern Samar. The survey was conducted from January 27, 2024 to April 7, 2024. A total of 12 sampling stations were surveyed from the four study sites. The survey had recorded 10 amphibian species belonging to Family Ceratobatrachidae, Dicroglossidae, Ranidae, and Rhacophoridae. Highest species richness (9) and abundance were observed in site 4, Barangay Binaloan. The lowest species richness (3) and abundance were observed in sites 1 and 3, which is Barangay Nato and Malinao, respectively. Platymantis species are distributed throughout all sites while Occidozyga laevis is found in sites 1 and 2, and Occidozyga lima in sites 2 to 4. The remaining five species, Philautus leitensis, Rhacophorus appendiculatus, Limnonectes sp.. Polypedates leucomystax and Rana erythraea, are exclusively found in site 4, Barangay Binaloan. The uneven distribution of amphibian species in all study sites could be caused by various factors including the presence of water structures, abundance of microhabitats, anthropogenic activities, and natural disasters. The recorded amphibians are common and endemic species thriving in anthroponegically disturbed habitats in the vicinity and forest edges of Taft Forest. The result could be used as a reference for developing future biodiversity assessments and strategic schemes for the protection and sustainable utilization of the natural resources in the area.</subfield>
