   <subfield code="a">The prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) has been consistently rising over the past decades due to the widespread dissemination and misuse of antibiotics. Contaminated aquatic environments can serve as a reservoir that is suitable for the development of antibiotic resistance genes and bacteria. Tacloban City is an urban area with a high population density that produces a significant amount of untreated wastewater, which is often discharged into the closest body of water or drainage channel, namely the Mangonbangon River. This study sought to identify bacteria that are resistant to ampicillin, gentamicin, and meropenem collected from Mangonbangon River through colony morphology and gram-staining, and assess the impact of physicochemical parameters on its proliferation in the environment. The physicochemical parameters, namely temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and turbidity may influence the development and survival of isolated ARB in the Mangonbangon River. Eleven and eighteen isolates were characterized as antibiotic- resistant from sampling points 1 and 2, respectively. Among all of the isolates, only eight genera were identified, namely Acinetobacter sp., Klebsiella sp., Escherichia sp., and Flavobacterium sp., were resistant to gentamicin; Enterobacter sp. and Marinobacter sp. were resistant to ampicillin; Aeromonas sp. was resistant to both ampicillin and gentamicin; and Staphylococcus sp. was resistant to meropenem. The presence of ARB in the river highlights the need for strategies aimed at reducing antibiotic use, preventing contamination, and promoting responsible management practices in the environment.</subfield>
