   <subfield code="a">Urban development invades our everyday landscape. We constantly confront its uncontrollable changes in the environment, and fail to notice its implications. Our everyday landscapes contain places where we embed them with meanings, histories, and memories, but because of the desire for urbanization, these places have become neglected; some have inevitably vanished.&#13;
&#13;
Marikina was once a rich pastoral land, filled with crops like rice and vegetables, but today it has developed into commercial centers and subdivisions. Like any city, it must participate in the development; however, on the contrary, the place has become the victim of its own progress. Like any place, the locals intertwined it with their personal memories to find themselves a home. They have become displaced from their memories about their place which erased the narrative of the land.&#13;

This thesis aims to reconstruct the once pastoral land of Marikina through a landscape painting in order to bring back the forgotten history of the place, using images from historical accounts as references. The thesis also comprises of simulated wall structure as the format of the painting using encaustic and oil. It visualizes how man-made constructions obscure and displace landscape. This does not only emphasize the obscurity of the place but raises questions on the implication of urban development to our locality.</subfield>
