   <subfield code="a">The popularity of esports in the Philippines was steadily increasing. Aligned with these were the growing numbers of gamers and video game genres not only in the country but also worldwide. Because esports were now more recognized in this generation as a sport, skills and techniques were the basis for the success of a gamer. Reaction time was considered as a skill that uses speed when responding to a stimulus, and this skill was needed in playing video games especially in first person shooter games. The main objective of the study was to compare the visual and auditory reaction time of competitive esports athletes to recreational gamers. In order to determine what were the reaction time of the players, the websites human benchmark and playback.fm were utilized. The participants were contacted online through email that contained the consent form, demographic profile form and the testing form. In total, there were 49 gamers who agreed to participate in the study wherein 39 players were identified as recreational gamers, and 10 players who stated that they competed as an esports athlete. For the analysis of data, descriptive statistics were used. Based on the findings, competitive and recreational gamers have significant differences in their visual reaction time. However, for the auditory reaction time for both competitive and recreational gamers there were no differences. On the other hand, the time spent by both gamers has no correlation towards their auditory and visual reaction time. Therefore, it was concluded in the study that the time spent playing video games didn’t affect the reaction time of both groups. Additionally, competitive esports athletes have higher visual reaction time than recreational gamers.</subfield>
