   <subfield code="a">Macroinvertebrates respond to the changes of the chemical, physical, and biological changes in river ecosystems. These were used as a bioindicator of water quality across the tributaries of Maag River in Silago Southern Leyte. Macroinvertebrate sampling was employed using dip net and physico-chemical parameters were determined in situ utilizing the multiparameter device. All sampling methods were undertaken in the cool dry season- under the month of January. Different biotic indices were employed, utilizing the pollution tolerance of these organisms. A total of 13 orders and 2 classes were recorded, which comprised a total of 30 families. Among the families, Baetidae was the most abundant group that dominated almost all sampling sites. Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT) taxa count the highest for Ambakan tributary. Different values were observed on some Biotic indices (FBI, BMWP-Thai, and Singscore), nevertheless, all tributaries were in fair to excellent condition with high salinity or nutrient levels based on EPT, ASPT-Thai, and SIGNAL 2 results. Various relationships between physico-chemical properties (EC, TDS, DO, Temperature, pH, Flood Width, River Width, and Depth) and macroinvertebrate taxa were significantly associated in accordance with the Canonical Correspondence Analysis. Overall, results suggest a need for monitoring and conservation management in these ecosystems as well as the development of the Philippine Biotic Index to gain the true picture of streams within the country, accounting the local taxa.</subfield>
