<subfield code="a">Recognizing mothers as the bearers of life necessitates society to give back by ensuring these women's empowered and fulfilled lives. A qualitative approach employing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to understand the lived experiences of five female primary caregivers and five female healthcare workers in Tacloban City and their experiences with mothers who had bughat in the postpartum period. Through purposive sampling, semi-structured interviews, and IPA, three major themes were unpacked: (1) Bughat as an Illness Experienced by Postpartum Mothers, (2) Multidimensional Factors Preventing Bughat, and (3) Bughat Known Treatments. Participants' lack of knowledge on postpartum depression (PPD) bounded the researchers in fully forming an understanding of its relation to bughat. However, researchers believe that bughat in the postpartum period is a psychosomatic condition, a novel finding in this field of study. This study highlights bughat as a real and serious condition experienced by mothers, with varied onset and duration, widely encompassing physical and psychological symptoms that hinder normal functioning, possibly driving them "mad". From a wider perspective, poverty, patriarchy, and postpartum practices contribute to bughat onset. Traditional, medical treatments, and strong social support upholding malasakit effectively prevent and treat bughat in the postpartum period. The study stresses addressing postpartum maternal health, particularly among economically disadvantaged women. The narratives being explained in a third-person perspective and the absence of an indigenous framework used are limitations of this study. Implications for spouses, families, healthcare workers, and local government are discussed, along with suggestions for future research.</subfield>
