Hipe YR - 2019 UL - https://tuklas.up.edu.ph/Record/UP-1685675941123958487 AB - Trees are perennial woody plants, usually having a single stem or trunk rising to an extensive height, bearing lateral branches. The study was conducted to determine the tree diversity in Balugo Watershed, Brgy. Salvacion, Tacloban City. Also, to identify the different tree species present as well as to assess the overall condition of trees in the site. Initial findings showed that the species diversity in the indigenous or natural secondary forest plots are relatively moderate (H=2.64; D=0.92, E=1.88), ans this would serve as baseline information for further monitoring and development. The relatively high occurrence of threatened species in the area was observed such as Pterocarpus indicus and Vitex parviflora, and endemic species, Koodersiodendron pinnatum and five other species suggest the significance of the area as a potential conservation site. Although the sampled area recorded several threatened and endemic species, a number of dominant species (high Species Importance Value) such as Swietenia macrophylla, which is an exotic may affect the current diversity of the area and may inhibit natural regeneration, given that the species evenness in the plantation forest is higher (E=2.22) and geographically near to the natural secondary forest growths. Nonetheless, further studies on the ecology of the area is necessary. NO - Undergraduate thesis (B.S. Biology) -- University of the Philippines, Tacloban. CN - LG 993.5 2019 B5 H57 ER -
