Bagas YR - 2018 UL - https://tuklas.up.edu.ph/Record/UP-1685675941123958221 AB - Access to electricity is considered to be a major concern of the households specifically in the remote areas and islands. Given this, the researchers investigated the households' willingness to pay (WTP) for a reliable or 24-hour access to electricity among the 143 randomly selected households of Brgy. Hilabaan, Dolores, Eastern Samar. Moreover, socio-demographic and economic profile and their current electrification status are also included in the study. Contingent Valuation method was utilized to determine the willingness to pay of the households. Multiple Linear and Ordinal Logistic regression models were used to ascertain the significant factors. Results reveal that income, electricity consumption expenditure, education level, number of students, and number of appliances significantly affect the willingness to pay of the households, while the number of household members, electricity supply (in hours), and power outages have no significant relationship. Among the significant variables, income, electricity consumption expenditure, education level, and number of appliances are positively correlated with the WTP while the number of students is negatively correlated. In addition, the results show that there is a high demand for reliable electricity among the households but their WTP is lower than their average monthly expenditure for their current electricity supply. Also, the different sources of electricity in the locale are found to be complementary rather than substitutes. Similar studies are recommended to support the study's claim.s NO - A research paper (BASS Economics) -- University of the Philippines, Tacloban. CN - LG 993.5 2018 E2 B34 ER -
