   <subfield code="a">Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA), a relatively recent meta-heuristic optimization algorithm based on music improvisation process of musicians, is applied as an underlying algorithm in a fundamental problem in image analysis, image segmentation. Image segmentation is a technique in image analysis that is partitioning meaningful parts or objects in an image into multiple regions. Different approaches have been applied to the problem of image segmentation. In this study, a clustering based segmentation will be applied using harmony search algorithm. Experiment results show that it is feasible to use harmony search algorithm as an underlying algorithm for image segmentation. It was able to segment different raster image types like colored images and grayscale images and images with different dimensions.</subfield>
