   <subfield code="a">The aim of the study was to isolate bacteria and fungi from soil samples that has potential antibiotic activity. To increase the chances of getting bacteria and fungi with allelopathic activity, mutagenized and nonmutagenized set-ups were performed. Five nonmutatant bacteria and one mutant fungus showed inhibitory effect against three to four pathogenic bacteria. Isolated bacteria such as Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Achromobactr sp. and Klebsiella pneumoniae were transcribed spacer for fungi. All of the isolated bacteria and fungi were pathogenic. It has been observed that the allelopathic activities of the isolated bacterial and fungal strains were not yet established. The results obtained from this study opened up avenue for further researches regarding mechanism of allelopathic activity and its metabolites which can be potentially used for antibiotic production -- Author's abstract.</subfield>
