<subfield code="a">The participatory communication approach was conceived more than two decades ago. Since then its principles have enjoyed increasing influence over the work of development communicators. Today, these principles drive the work of a significant number of communicators from the NGOs, and, to a lesser extent, the programmes of government agencies. The purpose of this research was to draft participatory communication tools and was implemented through facilitated dialogue to identify the root causes of early marriage in Kapangan, Benguet. Stakeholders of the study were early married couples, the group of ages risk, and the elders of the community. The participatory tools utilized in this research were: (a) the problem tree, a visual problem-analysis tool resembling a tree which had effectively identified the relevant causes of early marriage; (b) the sketch map, a visual expression which had effectively revealed the unique perspective of stakeholders; and (c) brainstorming which had effectively encouraged critical thinking to analyze a host of ideas among the stakeholders. The research shed light specifically on the root causes of early marriage . Results of the study showed that insufficient parental guidance was the leading cause of early marriage in the community. Among others were influence of peers and vices, economic survival strategy for financial problem, and incidences of early pregnancy. In its conclusions this research argues that participatory communication has the potential to support "another development" capable of identifying root causes and addressing specific needs and priorities relevant to people. Dialogue is an approach to participatory communication capable of facilitating people's involvement in the identification process of the root causes. It is a necessary component that ensures genuine ownership by the stakeholders -- Author's abstract.</subfield>
