Description
Summary:Previous researches show that there are different factors behind participation of students in activism. These factors include the school, the church and other societal factors. However these researches only focused on UP college students who were stereotyped as "activists". In an attempt to explore other factors that would apply, predict and explain this social phenomenon without any bias, we diverted our study to other institution with no preconceived notions like breeding ground of "activists" or "radicals". Hence, we focused on non-UP respondents, particularly the college students of the University of Baguio (UB). This is an explanatory study on the factors affecting participation of UB college students in activism. A total of 100 respondents were used. The data-gathering phase lasted for five weeks using survey method with some interviews. Statistical tools such as chi-square and gamma were utilized to interpret the results. Results show that family, efficacy and trust are significantly correlated in varying strengths with students' participation in activism. Only year level is found to have no relationship with participation of UB college students in activism --Author's abstract.
