   <subfield code="a">The relationship between industries and cities is one that is codependent. As new technologies are made, cities develop to cater to new needs of the people. With the rise of urban fragility however ; there is a need to rethink the way our industries engage in city building.&#13;
The rise of global economies has left local industries behind as is the case of the Footwear Industry in Marikina City. Despite efforts to revitalize the creative industry from the covid-19 pandemic and its geological vulnerability from flooding, many artisans have stopped working in the industry altogether. As such, there is a need to understand the role that local creative industries have in cities, and how they can be utilized for city building.&#13;
This project aims to answer how creative industries when engaged with the younger sectors of our cities, can become a catalyst for fostering creative solutions against the pressures provided by the covid-29 pandemic and flooding. Information regarding the relationship between industries and cities, the creative city theory, the agglomeration of creative industries, cultural heritage in urban resiliency, and the covid-19 impact are further analyzed in order to understand the behaviors of creative industries in cities within relation to recent events. This is then analyzed in comparison to the state of the creative industries in Marikina City, forming an organizational framework for the future of the creative industries.&#13;
The establishment of the Marikina Creative Youth Center which focuses on the development of design within the creative industries through its engagement with the youth will allow for the diversification of the vulnerable Footwear Industry into an alternative direction from global markets. In conclusion, this project reevaluates the role of creative industries in a time of global economies where many cities fail to keep up with the emergence of new trends and technologies.</subfield>
