   <subfield code="a">Introduction: Two types of cementation techniques are used to cement tooth colored indirect restorations, the conventional method or the delayed dentin seal (DDS) and the resin impregnation or the immediate dentin seal (IDS). With the conventional method (DDS), the dentinal tubules are sealed prior to final cementation. It has been reported that immediately sealing the dentinal tubules after tooth preparation (IDS) produces higher shear bond strengths as compared to the conventional method. The purpose of this study are: 1) to compare the effect of immediate dentin sealing and conventional dentin sealing on the shear bond strength of indirect restorations cemented with resin cements and 2) to determine which type of resin cement produces the highest bond strength with immediate dentin sealing and delayed dentin sealing.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">Methodology: Sixty fresly extracted permanent bovine mandibular incisors were collected from a local slaughterhouse and were randomly assigned to six treatment. The facial surfaces were wet ground to expose the dentin and temporized with a provisional restoration. After 9 days the catheter tubes were filled with indirect composite resin and bonded to the tooth surface using the different resin cements (TE, SE and SA) following manufacturer's instructions. The specimens were stored in a water bath for 48 hours and then subjected to shear bond testing using the Universal Testing Machine (Shimadzu Autograph AG-X) with a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm per minute and a load of 10N to 350kN.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">The data was assessedusing the Shapiro-Wilk test, hence Non-parametric test was used. Significant differences of shear bond strength among treatment groups were tested using Kruskal-walis test. Multiple comparisons test was done through Mann-whitney t-test witn Bonn Ferroni adjustment for the p-value alpha level of significance set at 0.05.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">Among the three types of cements tested, only the total-etch cements produced a decrease in shear bond strength as compared to the standard 17-20 MPa (Davidson, Gee, &amp; Feilzer, 1984). Regardless of technique, the total-etch resin cement showed the highest median value (TE-DDS) while the lowest SBS median value was yielded by SE-DDS. Based on Multiple comparisons, there were statistical differences noted on the shear bond strength between TE-IDS/SE-IDS, TE-IDS/SE-DDS, SE-IDS/TE-DDS and SE-DDS/TE-DDS.</subfield>

   <subfield code="a">Conclusion: Based on the results, cementation technique does not significantly improve shear bond strength of the self-etch and self-adhesive resin cement. Immediate dentin seal technique reduced the shear bond strength of total-etch cements. Total-etch cement still yielded the highest shear bond strength regardless of the cementation technique.</subfield>
